Why Sleep

My own sleep pattern has been the topic of much discussion since a baby.  “She never sleeps”, an exasperated voice of an over tired, mother of three small babies.   I have really not minded the lack of sleep over time but recently I have wondered why.  I read “The Good Sleep Guide” by local London physiotherapist Sammy Margo. A copy I picked up whilst visiting her physiotherapy clinic in London. This one resource and my own curiosity reignited my interest in discovering new and effective ways to support sleep patterns and encourage an awareness of how sleep contributes to a sense of well-being.

Why sleep? I’m going to dwell on one single idea which is it helps with a general feeling of well-being.  The new help devices of showing sleep patterns prove to be useful in showing that a regular amount of light and deep sleep seems to enhance performance with all individuals.  For example a regular bedtime, with good sleep hygiene and a willingness to sleep, does appear to produce a waking the next day with a certain measure of good feelings.  Ready to start the day.  As a well known breakfast cereal suggests.  What then is a good sleep regimen.

Lets begin with an exploration of your sleep patterns.  A sleep journal.  Simple choice noting when you go to bed and when you wake up and how do you feel? And do you feel differently on each day from Monday to Friday; do you notice a pattern occurring for one month and if so do you want to change it.
